Im soon to be involved in some end to end testing of some L2/L3 equipment.
We basically have IP Cameras feeding into some G-SDSL Modems.(B End) The DSL Modems are working point to point and at the A end the IP connection is going into an 1800 CISCO router and then off to some concentration area where the live feeds terminate.
What advices Im looking for is a tool that essentially proves connectivity end to end. We dont want to ping across the network, I would like a professional tool that will maybe give me some stats on throughput whilst may ftp a large file.
This is so we can handover to the customer (Site acceptance)
Can you recommend anything, we dont mind paying. We dont need anything too fancy, just someone that will show end to end throughput etc.
Iperf.exe you can download for free to do testing between two pc's. A comercial piece of software for testing that I like a lot is AppereNet from http://www.apperentnetworks.com. This software is a bit pricey but will track down faults give link utilization/congestion and total available bandwidith. It stores each test which then can be used to print out a report.
This is actually a pretty cool feature, i didn't even know it existed until I was looking for a solution to advertise a subnet (prefix in BGP talk), only if a certain condition existed. This is exactly what conditional advertisements does
