Hi all,
i want to implement EoMPLS on cisco 6500 with this modules
Mod Ports Card Type Model Serial No.
--- ----- -------------------------------------- ------------------ -----------
1 2 Catalyst 6000 supervisor 2 (Active) WS-X6K-SUP2-2GE SAD063401TP
2 2 Catalyst 6000 supervisor 2 (Standby) WS-X6K-SUP2-2GE SAL08186PTM
3 4 4-port OC-3c POS SI+ OSM-4OC3-POS-SI+ SAD074602TP
4 4 4-port OC-3c POS SI+ OSM-4OC3-POS-SI+ SAD074602TG
Mod Sub-Module Model Serial Hw Status
--- --------------------------- --------------- --------------- ------- -------
1 Policy Feature Card 2 WS-F6K-PFC2 SAD063301Z6 3.2 Ok
1 Cat6k MSFC 2 daughterboard WS-F6K-MSFC2 SAD063404DK 2.6 Ok
2 Policy Feature Card 2 WS-F6K-PFC2 SAL08186PJ9 3.2 Ok
2 Cat6k MSFC 2 daughterboard WS-F6K-MSFC2 SAL08218CGL 2.6 Ok
the IOS version is:
6sup22-pk2sv-mz.121-13.E15.bin
can i do this with the current hardware or i need to replace the SUP or line cards ?
thanks,
Avi.

Hi Avi,
no, L2TPv3 is not supported on Cat6500 (or on any other switch).
It is supported on the 7600 (among other routers) with the card combination that you have (sup720 + sip-400) but in the other 'direction', that is the sip-400 (or the ES+) facing the CE and an IP interface on any line card facing the core.

Hi,
You need Sup-720
see table-4 in this link:

actually since you have an OSM module you can have PXF based EoMPLS (SVI mode) which is the VC configured under the SVI.
Not sure if your IOS already supports it, incase you gotta upgrade to latest available release for Sup2.
Likely the syntax will be the old one (not xconnect)
something like
interface Vlan3 no ip address mpls l2transport route 10.0.0.1 3 |

please pay attention that my core facing is OSM so i understand it support EoMPLS, but my LAN facing is GE based on the Supervisor interface.
can i still do it?, i dont know if i can have SVI on that inteface.
thanks,
Avi.

Hi Avi,
OSM must be facing the core. It should be the L3 interface with MPLS enabled.
The SVI is not on that interface as a it is handled by the supervisor in all cases.
Basically the sup will take care of L2 forwarding and MAC learning, while the OSM will do MPLS imposition/disposition. This is what SVI based EoMPLS is all about on Cat6500/7600.
Your CE will be connected to a L2 port (any LAN module will do) controlled by the Sup.
As I wrote I am not sure about the IOS you have.. you can have a quick try to see if the commands are available. By experience I can tell you that the setup you have is working.

Avi.
