EPC3825 cable modem's WLAN doesn't stay disabled

Hi.

I just got Cisco EPC3825 cable modem from my ISP.

If I disable WLAN and restart modem, WLAN is enabled again (even if it still reads here that WLAN is disabled: http://192.168.100.1/Wireless.asp).

Moreover, in this page: http://192.168.100.1/Quick_setup.asp always reads that WLAN is enabled and it's impossible to change it.

Firmware build time is Oct 3 15:51:55 2011.

Is there newer firmware which fixes problem, and if there is, can I get it from Cisco and install myself to my modem, or must ISP install it via network?

EPC3825 cable modem's WLAN doesn't stay disabled

Hi Jirka,

The EPC3825 is not a Small Business product. Usually all Cisco cable modems are supported exclusively by the ISP. Please contact your ISP and ask them if the modem has the latest firmware. Usually they push a new firmware within a week or two of installation. That may correct the issue.

Note that the firmware is customized for/by the ISP so the device will work properly on their network.

Try using a different browser to make the changes. I have seen some unusual behavior with some devices where a setting is changed and it does not "stick". Using an alternate web browser corrects this.

You can also see if you have the ability to disable the SSID(s) individually. I remember a router having a problem where the radio itself could not be disabled but the SSID(s) could and that was a good workaround.

You are right in that browser issue.

IE and Firefox show WLAN state here:

http://192.168.100.1/Quick_setup.asp

correctly, but Chrome always shows: "Enabled".

However, the actual problem remains and WLAN is always enabled after modem restart. I think there's no way to disable SSIDs individually. I'll contact the ISP.

By the way, Also other people seem to have questions about EPC3825 in that Small Business Routers section, what do you think is right section?
