Error message.

I am using the 2600 router with the IOS 12.3(12a). The fastethernet 0/1, the line protocol and the port is up but it does not ping to the other end and it gives a error message at the regular interval "FastEthernet0/1 transmit error/max active/max total)" but when it is connected to Fa0/0 it works fine and the error message does not come.

can someone help me over this issue.

Late collisions have occurred on the Ethernet or Fast Ethernet interface. When a collision

is detected by a station after it has sent the 512th bit of its frame, it is counted as a

late collision.

Recommended Action: If the interface is a Fast Ethernet interface, verify that both peers

are in the same duplex mode. For regular Ethernet, the system should recover. No action is

required.
