Fast Convergence on Metro Links

We are currently installing our second Metro link that connects both of our main data centers together.

One of the design requirements calls for fast convergence, in the 1-2 minutes range. More importantly we would like to have some sort of defense against brown outs and have look at OER.

I understand that OER is more of a WAN (Internet) technology and after investigation have deemed it not feesible for this design. With this being said, would I be better off relying on EIGRP and maintaining a sound QoS policy? Are there any tricks out there that would provide a faster convergence, or is this a case of keeping it simple?

Re: Fast Convergence on Metro Links

with default settings, eigrp convergence will be well below 1 minute.

If you want better, look at the standard routing protocol that is know to converge in less than 1 second with proper configuration.

Hope this helps, please rate post if it does!

Re: Fast Convergence on Metro Links

you can either use EIGRP or OSPF and the convergence will be well below the 1 minute range.

If configured properly, then EIGRP can install this second link as a Feasible successor and any failure would not even require a Dual Computation
