I have 2 routers (A and B) that are connected through a Frame Relay Cloud. Is it possible that if "A" router goes down due to power issue, the PVC still shows as "PVC STATUS = ACTIVE".
"PVC STATUS = ACTIVE" verifies the connectivity between the CPE and the Frame relay switch or it verifies an end to end connectivity between A and B.

Hi,
"Frame Relay devices connect with each other through virtual circuits. Each virtual circuit is uniquely identified by a Data Link Connection Identifier (DLCI). In environments in which permanent virtual circuits (PVCs) are used, information regarding added or deleted PVCs and information about availability or unavailability of PVCs is carried through a Local Management Interface (LMI) with the use of status bits.
The Frame Relay switch within the local PVC segment deduces the status of the remote PVC segment through a Network-to-Network interface (NNI) and reports the status to the local router. If local management support within the switch is not end-to-end, the keepalive feature is the only source of information about the remote router. Frame Relay end-to-end keepalives provide status to verify that end-to-end communications are working and that traffic is getting through."

Thanx for the Reply Andrea.
Here in this scenario, the A router was not reachable since there was a power issue at the site. We generally login through Telnet.
But, why the PVC status was showing as "ACTIVE" on the other end.
Active - shows that the connection is fine from end to end and they can transfer data..right??

Hello Navneet,
As long as the frame-switch and frame-relay access device exchange keepalives the PVC is considered active.
There is a future called Frame-Relay End-to-End Keepalives (FREEK) that is able to verify the status of the PVC from endpoint A to endpoint B.

as we know PVC is end to end logical circuit and its end point is identified by DLCI... now verious status is lik...
ACTIVE? Indicates that the PVC is active and that information can be exchanged
INACTIVE? Indicates that the local connection to the Frame switch is working, but the remote router's connection to the frame switch is not working
DELETED? Indicates that no LMI is being received from the frame switch or that the physical layer is still not established
