Frame Relay Voice Adaptive Shaping

In the 12.4 mainline documentation, the configuration example includes the command in the serial interface:

frame-relay fragmentation voice-adaptive deactivation 50

and this command in the policy map attached to the frame-relay map-class:

shape fr-voice-adapt deactivation 50

Both commands have exactly the same description as to their function. Are both required? It's really not clear.

Any help appreciated.

No.

When configuring shaping or any QoS features in Frame-Relay, you have 2 choices:

1) You can configure a map-class frame-relay for per PVC QoS services

or

2) You can configure MQC which is the class-map and policy-map combination. This option applied to an interface will affect all PVCs in the interface.

Now, you can also use MQC and apply the service policy to a map-class. If you configure QoS features in the MQC that are similar to the ones from the map-class - like the example above - you don't need to repeat the same.
