From 100Mb to 10Mb.... Why?

Hi Everybody,
I bought a wic-4ews for a my cisco 1760, but I have a problem...


I configure my cisco 1760 in this way:


-On FastEthernet0/0  (on motherboar) connect the router cisco 2800 (of my ISP) . the speed of connection on internet is 100Mb (Test with speedtest.net)
-On wic-4ews I connected the pc / switch of my office


But I surf on internet to 10Mb .

I believe  that there is some limitation because the test always the same,  about 9.80Mb in download and 8.90Mb in upload

Why is it possible?
Where I have wrong?

I'am trust that I haven't set any limitations....

The Cisco 1760 only supports 8-9Mb throughput so that is why you are only getting that figure. Just because a router has a 100Mb interface this does not mean it will support 100Mb.

If you want 100Mb then you either need to connect your switch into the ISP router or purchase a router that can do 100Mb throughput.

To get a 100Mb you need a 2851. However Cisco have recently released the 2900 series routers so it would be a good idea to talk to a Cisco var who could point you in the right direction.

You could also consider a L3 switch which may well be cheaper but has limitations eg. most L3 switches don't do NAT for example.

The performance/throughput is decreased when NAT is enabled since there is a lot of CPU load involved with NAT translation tear downs. So remember to look specifically for performance with NAT enabled.
