G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

Hi,

I've got a c1751-V router with 2 VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1 card.

I want to connect to an old 3Com NBROII router with Telindus Crocus Nx64 Cnv TT X.21/G.703 converter.

Now the test network consists of a 75/120ohm Balun transformator and 2 75ohm koaxial wires.

The configuration is on the Nx64:

- linecoding: HDB3

- coding: CRC4 is enabled

- the time slots which are enabled for 1Mbps (16x64kbps).

I would like a very short example configuring controller E1 0/0 for this 1Mbps G.704 situation.

Now the CD LED is green, AL LED is yellow.

On the Nx64 there isn't AIS or any other alarm.

TIA,

Ruzsi

Note that framed/Nx64 endpoints, like a router or interface converter, work normally over unframed circuits. You just loose the bandwidth of TS0.

No serial config yet.

Router#sh controllers e1 0/0

E1 0/0 is down.

Applique type is Channelized E1 - balanced

Cablelength is Unknown

Description: G.704 1Mbps to Telindus

Transmitter is sending remote alarm.

Receiver is getting AIS.

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

The telindus should take clock from E1 side, check.

The balun should have 120 Ohm side to cisco. You can even do without a balun, set "line-termination 75" under controller.

Check cabling, telindus might not be seeing signal from cisco.

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

Thanks.

Which type of signalig do I have to choose on Telindus? Internal, external, etc.?

The balun was made to an other G.703/X.21 converter. Is that standardized?

'Line termination 75' with UTP (symmetric, 120 ohm) cable? Can I use normal UTP (LAN) straight-thru? I have to find out how can I setup Telindus for 120 ohm.

Cable check: koax wires are good.

There aren't any alarms on Telindus. But RX LED on it is strange...

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

If 'signaling' means clock, should be external.

baluns are all the same.

You set line-termination 75 and connect a coax cable with RJ-45 connector. Cisco makes them or you make your own.

You can use LAN UTP for E1 but respect proper pair twisting - that is different from ethernet. Never use premade LAN patch cables, you always have to crimp your own.

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

Yes, signaling means clock. Sorry, it was my mistake.

Balun works perfectly on other situation (between different converters). So the "line" is good.

RJ-45 and koax are not an option for me.

Do you have any tips checking the balun and coax together? For example with a normal multimeter or a storage scope?

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

Disconnect the bnc connector for router TX. If no changes, the problem is there.

Again, if you are using a pre-made UTP patch between router and balun, that will never work.l

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

I disconnected the BNC at balun which is connected to Telindus BNC IN.

TX LED is disappeared and LOS/LFA red LED is comed up.

On the Cisco card: CD green LED is disappeared. AL LED is remained yellow.

The connection between Cisco E1 card and Telindus: Cisco-120ohm UTP-Balun-2 wire coax-Telindus.

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

I disassembled my "balun". I think it isn't a real balun!

On the UTP (RJ-45) connector side the 1, 2, 3, 5 and 8 pin are used. 1 and 8 pin are connected to each other. There isn't any trafo only 2 BNC connectors. I think Cisco is using only 4 wires (1-2 and 4-5?)

I took a photo. Can I send somewhere?

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

Don't bother with pics. A proper balun must have inside two inductances, that is a wire coil.

Yes the cisco pinout (standard) is TX 1-2, RX 4-5).

As mentioned above the cisco can do 75 Ohm as well.

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

In my doc 1-2: RX and 4-5 TX. I checked the manual of Telindus and I have to crimp a cross cable. I jumpered the Telindus from BNC/75 to the default UTP/120.

In a short time the cable will be ready.

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

New situation:

We did a cross cable for UTP/120 ohm.

(1-2->4-5 and back.)

If I connect the cable between the T1/E1 cards everything seems good.

If I connect to Telindus in structured G.703 mode (G.704) with 1Mbps the statistics the next:

Transmitter is sending remote alarm.

Receiver has loss of frame.

alarm-trigger is not set

Version info Firmware: 20071011, FPGA: 13, spm_count = 0

Framing is CRC4, Line Code is HDB3, Clock Source is Internal.

CRC Threshold is 320. Reported from firmware is 320.

Data in current interval (646 seconds elapsed):

25600 Line Code Violations, 27 Path Code Violations

3 Slip Secs, 1 Fr Loss Secs, 2 Line Err Secs, 0 Degraded Mins

2 Errored Secs, 0 Bursty Err Secs, 2 Severely Err Secs, 537 Unavail Secs

If I switch Telindus to unframed G.703 (2Mbps), AL disappeared and E1 interface is up, no alarms.

What is the problem now?

New Member

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

Sorry, in unframed mode there is the problem.

1M or other speed is correct.

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

What do you want, unframed or Nx64 ?

New Member

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

Both of them.

In unstructured G.703 mode do I have to explicite define channes-group 0 timeslots 1-31? Is that the problem?

On Telindus I can change the G.703/704 mode only 1 click on ts0 timeslot.

Hall of Fame Super Gold

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

Unstructured (or unframed) has no concept of timeslot, it runs fixed at 2,048 Kbps and is so called for that reason.

controller E1 x/y

channel-group 0 unframed

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

Router(config-controller)#channel-group 0 ?

timeslots List of timeslots in the channel group

Router(config-controller)#channel-group 0 unframed

^

% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

Router(config-controller)#channel-group 0 timeslots ?

<1-31> List of timeslots which comprise the channel

What is the problem?

Do I have to rate one answer by one or it is enough rate the whole post?

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

I should have noticed this before. Unframed requires VWIC-xMFT-G703, VWIC2-xMFT-G703, or HWIC-1CE1T1-PRI.

The card that you have does not support unframed mode.

You can rate any post you like at anytime, once.

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

Is that any reason why not support both G.703 and G.704 mode this card like Telindus does except marketing?

-G703 card is more expensive?

Hall of Fame Super Gold

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

Cisco decides what to support and what not, you should ask them.

And yes, the unframed card is more expensive. Most people doesn't bother buying it because between 1,984 and 2,048 Kbps there is little difference.

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

Yes, if my device doesn't support G.704 there is a problem! Our network is very heterogenous. X.21, V.35, direct G.703 all of them over SDH (75 ohm unbalanced).

Re: G.704 1Mbps E1 MultiFlex WAN Card

Yes, you're right but we've got many X.21/V.35/G.703 converters which accept only unframed E1.

Thank you for your help!
