HI ,
I m facing high CPU above 90% due to huge internet traffic and TAC suggested to upgrade the h/w .
We are going to upgrade the internet bandwidth from 450Mbps to 1.5Gbps.
1. Can i replace this 7206 with 3750 switch, if not what is the technical/hardware limitation?
2. Can i replace this 7206 router with 4507(Sup-6E) switch, with 1.5Gbps internet link.
Please provide your suggestion .

Hi,

Since you are going to upgrade your link to 1.5Gbps, cisco 3750 does not support more than 1000Mbps per interface

I would say that dont prefer 4500 series switches,

I would prefer to go for C4948 switch.there is 10Gbps interface and its purely meant for DCs.You can have a look into the C4948 datasheet.
Thanks

No, these are LAN switches, not internet routers.

Same as above.
You can install an NPE-G1 or G2 in 7206, or a get a 3925E routes. These are very fast platform, apt for Internet unlike a LAN switch.

Hello Madhu,
if you are doing NAT in your C7200 you cannot replace it with C3750, C4500 or C4948 because it is not supported on them
Also if you are importing a full BGP table these multilayer switches are not able to put all routes in the CEF table and they will be perform process switching for all routes that do not fit in the CEF tables! (means 100% cpu )
You would need a C6500 with sup720 3BXL or Sup720 3CXL or RSP 720 3CXL but it is too expensive.
The best choice if you have NAT and/or full BGP table is probably ASR 1000 series as NPE-G2 is just able to process 2,000,000 packet per second so if you mean 1,5 Gbps coming into two GE ports with two upstream providers you will have no margin to grow.
NPE-G2 could be attractive as it can be installed in C7200 VXR chassis but it can be just adequate now.
Hope to help
