Host cannot ping serial port of its router.

Host 1 -> 192.168.1.101/24 (Connected to Router R1)

Host 2 -> 192.168.2.101/24 Connected to Router R2)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

R1 (DCE) -> f0/0 192.168.1.1/24 - s0/0 192.168.3.1/24  <-----> Router2 ->(DTE)  S0/0 192.168.3.2/24 f0/0 192.168.2.1.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

R1 IP Route

C    192.168.1.0/24 is directly connected, Ethernet0/0
S    192.168.2.0/24 [1/0] via 192.168.3.2
C    192.168.3.0/24 is directly connected, Serial0/0

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

R2 IP Route

S    192.168.1.0/24 [1/0] via 192.168.3.1
C    192.168.2.0/24 is directly connected, Ethernet0/0
C    192.168.3.0/24 is directly connected, Serial0/0

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Routers can ping all addresses.

Each host only pings the f0/0 of their routers.

I think each host should be able to ping the serial ports and traverse the routers.

Please let me know if I missed something. Thanks.

Do the hosts have their

Do the hosts have their default gateways set to the corresponding fa0/0 IP ?

Do the routers have "ip routing" enabled ?

Can you not ping any IP from the hosts other than the directly connected interface ?
