How can I block the unwanted pim rp entries at Catalyst 6509?

Hi, there. I'm daniel Seo.

Our client is Cable TV company. So They serve multicast services to downstream SO companies. I want you to see the attached file(Network diagram). They said "We're seeing the unserviced multicast ip address at the console of Catalyst 6500(Backbone) and We don't want to see the unserviced entries. But you have to apply the solutions to downstream devices as soon as possible".

How can I block the unwanted pim rp entries at Catalyst 6509?

What's the solutions?

-------------------------Catalyst 6509 information-------------------------

Group: 227.242.107.0 RP: 192.168.100.2, v2, next RP-reachable in 00:01:24

Group: 238.130.155.2 RP: 192.168.100.2, v2, next RP-reachable in 00:01:25

Group: 227.37.32.3 RP: 192.168.100.2, v2, next RP-reachable in 00:00:41

Group: 224.0.119.3 RP: 192.168.100.2, v2, next RP-reachable in 00:00:27

Group: 227.242.107.0 RP: 192.168.100.2, v2, next RP-reachable in 00:01:24

Group: 236.248.233.5 RP: 192.168.100.2, v2, next RP-reachable in 00:00:34

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

2nd and 6th entries are not the serviced multicast addresses. But We can see the unwanted addresses.

Hello,

unfortunately I cannot open your attachment, but basically, what you would need to do is specify which groups the RP services, using the command:

ip pim send-rp-announce interface scope 16 group-list X

where ´interface´ is the interface with the IP address of your RP, and ´X´ is the access list specifying the multicast groups that the RP services, e.g.:

access-list 1 deny 238.130.155.2

access-list 1 deny 236.248.233.5

access-list 1 permit 224.0.0.0 15.255.255.255

This access list would allow all multicast groups, except for the ones specified by you...

Re: How can I block the unwanted pim rp entries at Catalyst 6509

Thank you for reply. I have a question.

Should I apply your solution to which device?

Catalyst6500(RP)? or Downstream Devices?

I have to apply the solution to downstream devices but not cat6500.

I sent you above attached file via email(pauwen@hotmail.com). Do you verify that file for me?

Thank you so much. Have a nice day!
