Hi,

Why would it report it as failed if it wasn't present ?

Hi Alain,

I have seen in some devices when fan is not present it gives o/p as failed? and when i physically checked it was not there.

If at we consider its there inside, how do we can find out its presence, does failed means its presence there?

Regards,

Arun

Hi,

ok didn't know about this fact.

I don't see how you can do apart opening the device and verifying.

Hi,

To make it more specific in SDM was getting alert as FAN 3 failed, where as FAN 3 was not there in the device and that was switch, and I do not recollect the command o/p where it showed me absent or something like that. So what my q is is there a CLI command which shows the number of FANS present in chasis. Simple rite?

Hi,

yes simple indeed but aprt from the command you used I'm not aware of any other, maybe some more knowledgeable people will tell you if there is such a command then.

Alain

Hi,

My second point is does failed confirms the presence of the FAN ?

Hi,

I would have thought so but you tell that it may not be the case.

Hi,

I would have provided you the proof of the it, but unfortunately the snapshot captured machine got crashed and I could not recover the data. But I am very much sure that I have seen it CLI mode where it showed me FAN is not present still i got the error log of failed FAN.

Arun,

Do you show any errors for the fan under 'show logging' ?

Also, "fan failed' should indicate the failure of a fan. But usually you should see errors under 'show logging'

yes it does as follows

Feb 14 07:31:01.996 GMT: %FAN-3-FAN_FAILED: Fan 1 had a rotation error reported.
Feb 14 07:31:21.996 GMT: %FAN-3-FAN_FAILED: Fan 1 had a rotation error reported.
Feb 14 07:31:41.995 GMT: %FAN-3-FAN_FAILED: Fan 1 had a rotation error reported.
Feb 14 07:32:01.994 GMT: %FAN-3-FAN_FAILED: Fan 1 had a rotation error reported.

Again My second point is whether failed means fan is present or absent ?

This means that FAN1 has failed.

Fan 1 Failed

Feb 14 07:31:01.996 GMT: %FAN-3-FAN_FAILED: Fan 1 had a rotation error reported.

Feb 14 07:31:21.996 GMT: %FAN-3-FAN_FAILED: Fan 1 had a rotation error reported.

Feb 14 07:31:41.995 GMT: %FAN-3-FAN_FAILED: Fan 1 had a rotation error reported.

Feb 14 07:32:01.994 GMT: %FAN-3-FAN_FAILED: Fan 1 had a rotation error reported. Feb 14 07:31:01.996 GMT: %FAN-3-FAN_FAILED: Fan 1 had a rotation error reported.
Feb 14 07:31:21.996 GMT: %FAN-3-FAN_FAILED: Fan 1 had a rotation error reported.
Feb 14 07:31:41.995 GMT: %FAN-3-FAN_FAILED: Fan 1 had a rotation error reported.
