How to Configure WIC Interface

I have configured a WIC interface for our Cisco 3600 router. But it reads "Serial/3:0 is up, line protocal is down" - I have had the checked out and have been told that the router is the issue. I have checked the other end of the T1 and find they are having the same issue. Here is what my Interface looks like:

interface Serial1/3:0

description NISC

bandwidth 1544

ip address 192.168.98.2 255.255.255.252

encapsulation ppp

This matches the other end - can anyone help?

I am guessing the is a point to point serial link. So you will need one end to provide clocking for the ling. On the host you will need to put clock source to internal.

Can you post a "wr t" from both routers?

Also a "show controllers" from both routers if possible.

Hi ,

T1 configuration example.

hostname RTR-A

controller T1 1/0

framing esf

linecoding b8zs

channel-group 0 timeslots 1-24

clock source internal

check the status of T1 interface using ""sh controller T1 1/0"".

Configure the serial interface and check the status.

If the problem persists then take telco help to resolve the issue.Most probably it is problem with line not a router.

Wow - thank you everyone for your help on this issue - here is what I got from the "sh controller T1 1/3" command:

T1 1/3 is up.

Applique type is Channelized T1

Cablelength is long gain36 0db

I can only get the info for this router for the time being. In doing the "wr t" I do see a setting that is different from the other interfaces:

controller T1 1/2

framing esf

linecode b8zs

channel-group 0 timeslots 1-24 speed 64

controller T1 1/3

framing esf

clock source internal

linecode b8zs

channel-group 0 timeslots 24

The "clock source internal" is not listed in any other interface but the one that does not work properly. How do I set it to read "framing esf"?

Can you remove clock source internal from controller T1 1/3 and check the stauts of T1 1/3 and serial interface.

Hi ,

Can you change the channel group 0 time-slots 24 under T1 1/3 to channel group 0 time-slots 1-24.Below link is useful for troubleshooting T1 and serial line problems.

You configured channel group 0 time-slots 1-24 under T1 1/2 means you can see one serial interface i.e 1/2:0 where as you configured channel group 0 time-slots 24 under T1 1/3.

Can i know the difference between these two ?

According to me if you want to use 24 serials lines of T1 then you need to configure channel group 0 time-slot 1 for first channel and channel group 1 time-slot 2 for 2'nd ..etc..

If i am wrong correct me.

Satish, you are the man. You directed me to the right spot, the internal clock and time slot were both the issue and this issue is now resloved. The line and protocol are both up and running.
