HRSP Question

I have a router with two fractional T1 cards. I would like to create redundancy between those two interfaces so when one is down the other one comes up automatically.

Is it possible to use HSRP on serial interfaces on the same router? I have a 1760 router and the command is not available on the serial interfaces.

You can't use HSRP on serial lines. You can enable HSRP on the ethernet side, with tracking option for serial lines, though.

For serial line redundancy you can rely on Equal cost/floating static routes.

Thanks.

HSRP is supported only on LAN interfaces.

You might consider using 'backup interface' under the Serial interface. This configuration will force the backup interface into a standby mode and it will only be activated only when the primary interface goes down.

Let me know if it helped.
