I need router with Ethernet WAN port to connect to my ISP

Hi, everybody

I need a router with an Ethernet 10Mbs WAN port to communicate with my ISP. I have LAN circa 100 PCs, web&mail&streaming servers. What Cisco router will comply?

Thanks

Ed.

Re: I need router with Ethernet WAN port to connect to my ISP

hi

I would suggest to check out the 1800 ISR series model for your requirement.

If you think its gonna be a overkill then you can check out either 1700 series or 800 series.

I suggested 1800 in the first place coz those are new models and the lifetime will be more when compared to the other older models..

It may take time for them to get EOS/EOL tags.

Re: I need router with Ethernet WAN port to connect to my ISP

Hello,

I don't know the price difference between the 1700s and the 1800s series, but from a performance point of view I would go with the 1841, we started rolling them out in few of our networks and to me they are a really nice piece of equipment.

-They boot up as fast as the 3600s,

-Have Compact Flash Cards for IOS storage

-Come out of the box with plenty of memory and flash

-Even have a USB Slot so you can upgrade the IOS from your USB stick.

-Two HWIC slots so you could add ISDN backup etc...

-With 70.000-120.000 pps they are as fast or even faster as the Cisco 2691.

IMO Cisco has done a really good job with this product, I wish I would have a few of them in my home lab... :-)

HTH,

Dirk.

At about half the price of the 1800 series, you could buy a 871 router. It has a 10 Mbps Ethernet WAN interface. And sounds to me to cover your needs.
