iBGP RR route-map processing

I ran across a document named "BGP Case Studies" earlier this week:

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/459/bgp-toc.html

It has a line that says:

"The set clause for outbound route maps does not affect routes that reflect to iBGP peers"

This means just reflected routes (client -> route reflector -> other client), right? I think the RR should still be able to set properties on his own updates sent to RR clients.

Anyone know this for certain? I don't have a lab setup to test this....

Thanks!

According to this article and section. Yes, because you only apply the route-map to the RR client. Only if you also apply the route-map to the iBGP peer, then it will also affect the routes to iBGP peer.

Hope this helps.

Changing attributes on updates received from eBGP peers is not an issue and should work just fine even on the RR.

A route-map will allow you to change certain attributes even on reflected routes. Routing loops can be introduced if not used carefully.

Hope this helps,
