ICMP TTL EXPIRE IN TRANSIT

Hi..

We are using the connectivity as follow.

Location 1            Location2

Router 1 ----------- Router 1

Router 2 ---------- Router 2

  1. We have configured HSRP between these routers.
  2. Router 1 to Router 1 is primary and Router 2 to Router 2 is secondary.
  3. We are able to ping the server at location 2 when our primary link is up.
  4. but when primary fails and secondary link is up then we are not able ping some server of location 2.
  5. There error message we get is ttl expire in time.

Ned help to solve this problem.

Hi Santosh,

Do you have identical routing table at router 2 (other end) as that of router 1 (other end)..You can try using sh ip route

on both router for the server IP's.

How is router1 and router2 learn routes from far end..i mean which routing protocol

please reply with necessary details..which help to understand problem

Hi,

Please verify when your primary link goes down does your tunnel goes down in location 1. you can cross check by seeeing

hsrp status and see if router1 is primary or router 2...when primary link is down

If tunnel do not go down you need to use IP SLA

Regards

Mahesh
