Identify Specify Traffic

                   Hi All,

I am facing issue at one site , the Metro ethernet link is bottle neck its a 100 MB link and as per the suggestion site required to upgrade the link to 1gig link but before upgrading i want to implement QOS and rate limit , Please be advice who i check which applications or traffic or users using more bandwith , what other steps i can take to check the data before upgrading the link .

Its a metroethernet link between the switches , apart from the netflow what other things we can use to analyze the data and after fetching the data how should move forward for placing the qos or rate-limit

You can use Netflow to gather information about what is passing through the that WAN link.

You could try QoS first.  If you're using a router that supports some form of fair-queue, that will often handle congestion well without further traffic identification.

Much depends on features of your device and exactly how detailed you wish to analyse the traffic.

Other possible features include, netflow caching stats, nbar stats, ip accounting, ACLs, traffic analysis with a NAM, etc.
