Hi,

     i am getting input errors on Router 3845 Gig 0/0 which is holding 4 Vlans, error are increasing after every 1 minutes. Router gig 0/0 was connected to Switch 3560G Gig 0/24. i changed the port to gig 0/23, changed the LAN cable (cable directly connected to router and switch not patch panel). changed the Duplex to Full on both end. changed the speed to 1000 on both end. but same issue. Duplex and speed was auto/auto on both end but i was still gettig input errors on router gig 0/0. then i changed duplex and speed as mentioned above. there is no errors on switch gig 0/23 and 0/24. the error are olny on router gig 0/0. please help me in this regards. my previous router had same issue therefore i change it with new router.

When you enter the command "sh interface G0/0" on your router, have you ever seen the other values, above highlighted in RED, other than "255"?

i am sorry i mistakenly clicked on correct answer button.

Full-duplex, 1000Mb/s

did you have speed and duplex set?  Set it back to auto.

7275 Pause frames

Router is sending Pause frames to the switch telling the switch to STOP or slow down.

it was on auto/auto but i was still getting errors. if duplex is auto there is messages on router. duplex mismatch that is why i put duplrex full.

On the 3560G, try this:

1.  Command:  test cable tdr interface G0/23;

2.  Wait for 61 seconds;

3.  Command:  sh cable tdr interface G0/23; and

4.  Post the output to #3.

WARNING:  If your 3560G is running an old IOS, 12.2(44)SE and earliear, this command is disruptive.

i checked it but i did not find other than 255.

i checked it but i did not find other than 255.

Keep an eye on it.  If it ever go below 255, change the cable immediately.

ok i will. but what you think about this issue. all the setting you saw. what is you the expert opinion on this issue.

My opinion is you could have a potential cable issue.  Can't be certain.  TDR is showing fine ... but then again TDR has to be precise and can sometimes require "perfect timing" to see the cable pairs drop.

ok i will change cable again. but i noticed that when traffic goes above 20mb on interface gig 0/0 then i receive input errors on interface gig 0/0. if traffic continue above 20mb then i contiue receive errors.otherwise there is no single error if traffic below 20 mb.

when traffic goes above 20mb on interface gig 0/0 then i receive input errors on interface gig 0/0.

Make sense.  The router can't process the amount of traffic coming from the switch so the router sends the unprocessed data into a buffer until the buffer gets full.  When this happens the router stop dropping packets.

You may want to consider slowing down the amount of data going from your switch to the router by putting a QoS on the switch side.

but how is this possible a router cannot handle more than 20mb but switch can handle it.
