Interface downtime in order to initiate DHCP

Hi guys,

I'm trying to find out what is the minimum downtime for a Cisco 2800 series LAN interface configured as DHCP client, in order to initiate a new DHCP discover.

How much time does it need to take for the Cisco to "sense" the phy disconnection ?

Any help is appreciated.

I would figure max about 30 seconds. If it doesn't come up, you can down the interface and bring it back up. Why are you running dhcp on the lan side?

Interface downtime in order to initiate DHCP

Hi,

I need to test a scenario where SOHO cisco routers are used, and I need to know if this configuration is changeable or at list visible in the config.

I assume the SOHO routers have the settings alligned with other ones..

Liviu,

Have a look at the carrier-delay command:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/ios/interface/command/reference/ir_c1.html#wp1012657

The default value is 2 seconds. You can modify the setting in order for the interface to take note of the up-down transition sooner. Perhaps this will help.

Best regards,

Peter
