Interfaces and QOS

For DSL clients, I used to apply QOS by prioritising real time traffic as per the clients request and applying the service-policy on the ATM sub interface.

But, while going to some forums I can see the service policy is being applied to the dialer interface.

So, which is the best practice ??? Applying QOS to ATM?s subinterface or Dialer interface ??

It will be great, if some one explain me why and which interface is good for applying QOS.

Thanks

Rajesh

What I think which interface will be assigned w/ IP and for the transmittion then it can apply the service policy.

If you use ATM (e.g. RFP 1483)as the direct interfac to connect to the remote then it is fine to apply the service policy at ATM.

Check below for RFP 1483 sample :

If you use dialer interface (PPPoA) then the ATM will not be assigned w/ IP then the service policy will be applied to the dialer.

Check below PPPoA sample :

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk175/tk15/technologies_configuration_example09186a008071a67e.shtml

It depends on what type of interface you are using.

Hope this helps.
