Hi,
I noticed the ISO had disappeared from flash and I get this error on booting:.
%Error opening c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-11.XJ4.bin (file not found)
The router boots ok and works great, I have lots of stuff for my CME in there and I do not feel like formatting the flash...
Any idea how I can see the IOS so I can remove it and upgrade it ? I even tried to FTP the c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-11.XJ4.bin to an outside server, it fails after 33MB.
I do not have boot image secure as the file is "missing" , the router does not allow the command to go thru.
Any help is appreciated.
As you see: lines 1 and 2 are missing, it starts at "3"
guess 1 or 2 must be the line for IOS

Once the problem fixed, I would like to upgrade my IOS from c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-11.XJ4.bin to c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-20.YA2.bin

John,
Please let's get back to that software I have suggested. You have used it incorrectly, as you have selected your hard disk as the target. That is not what I had in mind - what I need is a file image of the CF card. Let's do it once again, here are the steps.
After starting the program, in the first screen, select the CF card just as you did and click on the Continue button. Then, in the target selection screen, double-click the FILE option in the list and insert the name of the file you want to save the image as. In the same file save window, select the type of image: "Raw image (dd image)". Then click on the Continue button again. In the next screen, it should not warn you about formatting a drive anymore, and after clicking on the START button, the CF card shall be stored as an image.
I understand that your issues may be solved with the new CF card but this is such an obscure error that I am extremely strongly interested in learning what really happened. Please be patient with me here and try to go over this exercise once again. Thank you!
Best regards,
Peter

You could try a delete flash:c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-11.XJ4.bin If you are just wanting to remove the file
08-01-2013 07:10 AM
Thank you, James,
Not really showing more.
c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-11.XJ4.bin is my production IOS, If I remove it, the router wont run...
Beside, I doutb I can remove it as the router does not see it.

Thank you Peter,
As I stated in my original post,
I do not have boot image secure as the file is "missing" , the router does not allow the command to go thru.
Now I do no secure boot-image fom the console, and it confrms IOS relisience is not active
08-01-2013 08:19 AM
John,
There is a remote possibility that the IOS Resiliency (secure boot-image) has been activated in the past but the original configuration has been lost so the router does not "remember" the IOS Resiliency was activated.
Try entering these two commands in the global configuration while accessing the router via the console port (not remotely!):
secure boot-image ! may produce error messages - ignore them
no secure boot-image
Afterwards, check whether the IOS has been reinstated into the FLASH.
Best regards,
Peter

It is weird, because on July 27th, the IOS was there, I kept an old print-out:

John,
I am scratching my head. Hmmm... Would you mind running fsck flash: command and see if any errors are reported or corrected?
Best regards,
Peter

2811#fsck flash:
Checking the partition table and boot sector...
Checking FAT, Files and Directories...
Reclaiming unused space...
Updating FAT...
fsck of flash: complete
2811#
Nothing....
there must be a way to "repair" thatt flash.... In fact, the reason I need to see it is because I want to delete it to upgrade to a newer version that allows Network Object Groups...(c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-20.YA2.bin does).
But if it can't see it, it can't delete it.
Where can I see the boot image it uses upon booting ? Can I do a display of
boot system flash:c2800nm-adventerprisek9-mz.124-11.XJ4.bin ?????
To see under what flash directory it is located ? I know it's there, somewhere.....

John,
I wonder - do you have a CF card reader somewhere around? With any luck, the CF card is formatted with FAT filesystem so it should be plain simple to check its contents under Windows or Linux.
Best regards,
Peter

Yes, verified with a compact flash reader, all the files are there as per the dir flash:, but no IOS.
The IOS must be there because when I add the 59 MB on the compact flash card + the 23 MB left on it, I am missing 45MB to total the 128MB capacity....
45 MB is the size of the IOS....
