Yes you are right you need delete current IOS in flash...

If you delete IOS and upgrade fails you still have device running old IOS until your restart the router

I suggest you to backup before you start

1) Current IOS

2) Current configuration

Check the procedure

http://www.netadmintools.com/art98.html

Last part of this document is workaround what you need to do if after reboot doesnt router come up

m.

Hope that helps rate if it does

You can boot the new image via TFTP for testing before delete the current image.

boot system tftp imagename.bin x.x.x.x

make sure your RAM will meet the image req (www.cisco.com/go/fn), also use a secondary boot statement pointing to the current image on the Flash memory.

Hai Adhi,

you need to delete the ios.try to copy the current ios from flash to tftp. What is the series of router??.check the connectivity between router and TFTP server by pinging...

1)copy the file to TFTP root folder....

2)go to router enable mode Router#delete flash:

3)Now copy ios from TFTP to flash...(make sure router should not get rebooted this time....(if this happend then you will be forced to transfer the ios via console cable ..which will take long time)

after transfering the ios check the config-register value is 0x2102

reset

all the best
