Did you have to pick the one answer to mark as correct in our thread where i made a total idiot of myself

Seriously though, IOS XR is used on Cisco's high end platforms, namely the CRS, XR and ASR9000 platforms. I have never used it as i have never been lucky enough to get my hands on any of those platforms.

Not sure what you mean about it being specific to service providers but i suspect it is mainly service provider and very large Enterprises that use them.

So not something I can get for home lab?

***Funny on the correct answer thing, but that was the one that really solved the initial problem, we just went above and beyond as I was trying to learn more!

No not really, unless you have an awful lot of money to spare and can afford to power the device up.

You probably already know that you can get Service Provider IOS feature sets though ?

Jon

I was interested in seeing the syntax differences.

Just have a look at the command references then -

If you are well versed on IOS platform then there is not much difference in IOS-XR for all the things you have been doing it, "?" will help you do anything. I reffered to this doc by cisco to understand the difference, it may confuse you at some point but just take a look.
