Hi

plz ans me that ip is deterministic or non determinisric protocol ?????????

Thanks alots

IP is not a deterministic protocol. In that nothing in the packet determins the path that it follows to get to either the source or destination addresses.

The path selection is at the whim of the intermediate routers between source and destination. Furthermore, the return path is not necessarily the same as the receive path.

The layer three protocols are neither deterministic or non-deterministic.

Layer two is where it's at (most of the time), For example, Ethernet is non-deterministic; there is no way to predict when the media will be available (of course, with full-duplex, it's always available).

Token-Ring is deterministic. It's possible to calculate how long it takes for the token to circumnavigate the ring ... and when it will be available to any given client to pass traffic.

IP can use either Ethernet or Token-Ring (and many other L2 protocols).

Good Luck
