IP Question

Are IP blocks assigned to ISP's with any kind of logic? More specifically, if I looked at 209.x.x.x could I tell which State or Geographical area that block belongs to?

Thanks

Re: IP Question

Hi,

You can use the WHOIS from the regional NIC to find the ISP

http://www.arin.net

http://www.apnic.net

http://www.ripe.net

http://www.lacnic.net

http://www.afrinic.net

You can also use the IP Address Geographic Locator http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm

Re: IP Question

hi,

The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) delegates Internet resources to the RIRs, and in turn, the RIRs follow their regional policies for further sub-delegation of resources to their customers, which include Internet service providers and end-user organizations.

Please check the attached diagram.

And as Dandy said, you can use WHOIS for each RIR to know the owner of the IPs.

You can also use this website, i find it useful:

Re: IP Question

Thanks. looking at the geobytes link leads me to believe that somewhere out there, there is a repository for all of this information. I'm just trying to see if there is a directory that can be seen in it's entirerty
