Is it possible to monitor switch / router forwarding performance (in Mpps) using SNMP?

Hi,

Is it possible to actively monitor the performance of switch and/or router in terms of forwarding performance using SNMP?

My team manages an estate of 23 6509s (16 running MPLS) and monitor 'performance' using the SolarWinds Network Performance Monitoring product.

This gives us all the standard stats - interface bandwidth utilisation, errors, packet loss, latency, cpu load, etc but we've no real concept of the forwarding performance or how close we get to the 30Mpps limit of a sup-720 without DFCs equipped line-cards or how much of the switch fabric we use.

Is there an SNMP MIB / OID that you can poll for this information and would it also be applicable for 3560s, 3750s, etc?

This question is more out of curiosity than performance concerns but it would still be nice to know!

thanks in advance

Matthew
