On ATM VCs on non-distributed platforms, per-VC queueing and the layer-3 queues are enabled by default on supporting Cisco IOS? software releases. FIFO is the default queueing method applied to the layer-3 queues when no specific queueing mechanism has been configured. The layer-3 queues use FIFO by default since the default queueing algorithm on an ATM interface is also FIFO. Originally, these queues supported a queue limit of only 40.
