ISDN connection problem

Hi,

I'm troubleshooting a connection problem with a CISCO1812/K9. I've narrowed it down to being a PPP CHAP authentication problem.

Here is the debug that shows the PPP athentication messages:

MYROUTER#debug ppp authentication

*Dec 22 20:27:55.198: BR0:1 PPP: Using dialer call direction

*Dec 22 20:27:55.198: BR0:1 PPP: Treating connection as a callout

*Dec 22 20:27:55.198: BR0:1 PPP: Session handle[C800003F] Session id[575]

*Dec 22 20:27:55.266: BR0:1 CHAP: O CHALLENGE id 1 len 33 from "MYROUTER"

*Dec 22 20:27:55.274: BR0:1 CHAP: I CHALLENGE id 150 len 27 from "r-xyz"

*Dec 22 20:27:55.274: BR0:1 PPP: Sent CHAP SENDAUTH Request

*Dec 22 20:27:55.274: BR0:1 PPP: Received SENDAUTH Response PASS

*Dec 22 20:27:55.274: BR0:1 CHAP: Using hostname from unknown source

*Dec 22 20:27:55.274: BR0:1 CHAP: Using password from AAA

*Dec 22 20:27:55.274: BR0:1 CHAP: O RESPONSE id 150 len 33 from "MYROUTER"

*Dec 22 20:27:55.546: BR0:1 CHAP: I FAILURE id 150 len 25 msg is "Authentication failed"

Username and credentials have been verified by both parties.

What may also be important is that I found CRC and Frame errors on the BRI interface. To eliminate cabling and local line, I have changed cabling and connected to an entirely different isdn line. The errors keep coming.

Not sure where to go from here. Can anyone help with this?

Thanks!

Lieven.

ISDN connection problem

Checking the output you have supplied I see

*Dec 22 20:27:55.546: BR0:1 CHAP: I FAILURE id 150 len 25 msg is "Authentication failed"

you say that "Username and credentials have been verified by both parties."  But the above is a incoming message from the remote end - which could indicate that the username you are sending, is not the username they have configured?

Post your ISDN config for review - remove sensitive info etc.

ISDN connection problem

Andrew,

Thank you very much for your replies. The links you sent are quite good!

The problem is solved (for now?). Things started working again after the remote partner re-entered his configuration. It seems that everytime a change is made on their side, things stop working. They have assured me they enetered the exact same settings but they start working only after redoing the config...

Do you think it could be something similar to what is discussed in the thread below?

Regards,

Lieven.
