Issues Creating Vlan on ASR 1006

Hello,

New to Cisco devices and have had an ASR dropped in my lap.

Running ASR1000-RP2 with System image file: asr1000rp2-advipservicesk9.03.03.00.S.151-2.S.bin

Show Vlans returns: No Virtual LANs configured

Router(config)#interface vlan ?

  <1-4095>   Vlan interface number

But when I try an assign a Vlan number I get % Unrecognized command, or % Incomplete command

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Max

The pigeons will thank you.

There is just enough similarity between xe(xr) and IOS to make you think they are the same. they are not.

If you have been driving L3 switches like the 65 and 76, this is a whole nuther beast. Its a ROUTER.

For your specifics, you will have to assign stuff to physical interfaces and do dot 1 q, nothing real radical.

Do a deep dive into config commit and rollback, and how you jump to different features, it will save some pain.

No more than 6 tylenol per day.

Whole different animal that old school IOS.

We have just deployed some of the asr1000's bigger brothers (9k's) there is a learning curve.

Thanks for the reply!

Looks like I have some reading to do.

Should this guide bear fruit, expect a statue erected in your likeness.

Thanks again for the help and the reading material.

I can already feel the extra hours piling on, that and my overwhelming desire to commit ritualistic suicide.

Ven,

Thanks for the reply.  I'm loving all the support and suggestions on this forum.  Unfortunately due to the needs of the physical connections I don't think sub-ints can work.

Strange.  Since this is a router and not an L3 switch, that's the only way I'm aware of that you can create vlans.

What physical constraints keep you from using subs?

Are you trying to use these like switches and create SVI's that can be trunked elsewhere?
