Latency Bench mark

Hi All,

Recently i did a pathping test in my network and got some crazy results, so not sure if my interpretations is correct, would appreciate if some one could help me on this ...thanks in advance

our network is on flat structure,

Test 1.  did pathping/traceroute from user desk to reach a server from singapore to london it shows 196ms

Test 2. did same test but connected the laptop to the core and result was too good for us 9ms

please refer to the attached slide which i have explained with my understanding of how to interpret the traceroute/pathping results

I assume 196ms would be the normal latency from SG to London,  offcourse it would be better if we can make it more speeder

can you plese share how you all do a benchmark for calculating the latency

hi,

your latency of 196 ms from singapore to london should be acceptable.

i assume your running VPN for both ends. i would suggest performing ping/traceroute using public IPs to get your latency figures.

to do benchmark, you can use a public traceroute or better if you can find a public router (looking glass) in singapore. see useful URL and sample traceroute captured from STIX to a public DNS server in UK:

Thank you John,

The EVPN (Ethernet VPN) is a private network by Singtel we have 5Mb link, what puzzles me is when i can get 9ms ... this is super fast and do not think my link is that good ...
