Leased line not working with switch

Dear All,

We have 2960 switch and 2800 router

when i connect the line to switch, it doesn't work but as soon as connect it to router, it works fine.

What must be the reason?

Regards,

Vishal

Re: Leased line not working with switch

Hello Patil.

Your leased line is a WAN link that uses WAN protocols (HDLC, PPP) which your L2 Switch can't understand. Your Switch uses LAN protocol (Ethernet). So, you need a Router to communicate over a WAN link.

Leased line not working with switch

Hi Vishal,

Can you just connect your Laptop directly to the Line and give the IP address from the public IP space provided to you by your ISP and check your connection ?

If you are not able to connect to the external network while connected direcly to the line with correct IP space then there is a problem with the ISP but if you are able to reach external networks , then tell us ( forum ) what ip setting are you using while connecting the line to the switch directly and if there is any vlans on the switch.
