The details provided are 10 Mbps metro ethernet link.How to calculate the link utilization ??

Hi, use some simple SNMP tool like PRTG (search in google) to manitor link utilization.

Monitoring tools like MRTG, PRTG, Netflow etc are the best methods to understand the trend of bandwidth utilisation. The tools help you get the usage trend on hourly, daily, weekly, monthly & yearly basis.

However if dont have any tools & are relying on interface statistics to understand the link utilisation then "5 min input / output rate" can give a rough idea of link utilisation at that instance. But you cant derive a trend based on this instant usage.

If it was not the answer you were looking for that suggests there is an answer you were looking for in which case if you know the answer why post the question ?

There are times when marking a post as 1 is applicable but i don't personally think this is one of them and people like Paolo should be encouraged to continue in these forums.

Which field we have to take in this 5 min input or 5 min output when we see the utilization in the router for particular serial.

How do u will decide that so and so utilization is there by seeing the above resultsi in the router.

5 minute input rate 4465000 bits/sec,

5 minute output rate 1727000 bits/sec,

Convert the bits/sec to Kbps or Mbps & u get the utilisation for last 5 min. But again this is the instant throughput & not present the trend for whole day. So, this may be decieving when it comes to finding full day utilisation.
