Load Balance if Possible

Hi All Cisco Gurus!!!

Attached file is our current WAN setup and the proposed WAN setup given by our service provider. On the current setup, we only have one E1 line on our central facility and on our remote sites, there is also a single 256kbps line. Now we ask them to give us 4 bundled E1's but they told us that they cannot provide it. So, they give as another 3 more E1's. Total of four E1 lines. They also proposed that they will break our remote sites into four group, one group for every one E1. Is this a good solution? And is it possible to have a load balancing on this kind of setup?

Please advice....

Re: Load Balance if Possible

Once you split your sites into separate MPLS VPNs, don't see how you can load balance to your main site.

If the MPLS provider can't provide any type of link bundling (odd?), ask them about using multiple links as multiple equal cost paths between main site's CE to PE (e.g. if no MLPPP, eBGP multihop).

Otherwise, perhaps a fractional E3?

Re: Load Balance if Possible

Hello Chester,

this is really a poor design:

if one E1 at central site fails you miss a subset of remote sites, even if other 3 E1 links are alive!

MPLS L3 VPN allows for what Joseph is suggesting:

if bundling the 4 E1 as multilink PPP or multilink FR is not possible nothing blocks the possibility to use the 4 links as 4 parallel L3 links between central site and MPLS provider.

Ask also them to have 2 E1 terminated on one Pe node and 2E1 terminated in another PE node.

This would be a better design.

Consider the possibility to use two CE nodes on central site for fault tolerance.

the service provider can deal with the 4 links even if terminated to two different PE nodes.

Hope to help

Re: Load Balance if Possible

Hi Giuseppe and Joseph!

Thanks guys for your prompt reply.

I'll try to talk again to our service provider.

Let you know what will happen.
