Load on routers after implementing IPSEC and EIGRP

Hi,

We have implemented IPSEC and EIGRP on the routers. We have multiple links in load balancing. We have seen a sudden increase in the CPU load after implementation of IPSEC and EIGRP, and we have enabled CEF to bring down the CPU load.

1* Cisco 3845:-

IOS:- C3845-ADVIPSERVICESK9-M, Version 12.3(11)T5

Cisco 3845 (revision 1.0) with 220160K/41984K bytes of memory.

Processor board ID FHK1007F1F5

4 FastEthernet interfaces

2 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces

1 Serial(sync/async) interface

1 Virtual Private Network (VPN) Module

DRAM configuration is 64 bits wide with parity enabled.

479K bytes of NVRAM.

62720K bytes of ATA System CompactFlash (Read/Write)

3* Cisco 3825 (revision 1.0) with 223232K/38912K bytes of memory.

IOS:- C3825-ADVSECURITYK9-M, Version 12.4(3c)

Processor board ID FHK1008F0PH

2 FastEthernet interfaces

2 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces

2 Serial(sync/async) interfaces

1 ISDN Basic Rate interface

1 Virtual Private Network (VPN) Module

DRAM configuration is 64 bits wide with parity enabled.

479K bytes of NVRAM.

125184K bytes of ATA System CompactFlash (Read/Write)

We have enabled IPSEC and EIGRP on the routers. We have multiple links in load balancing. We have seen a sudden increase in the CPU load after implementation of IPSEC and EIGRP, and we have enabled CEF to bring down the CPU load.

Please suggest (using VPN accelerators or through software) how can we bring down the CPU load on the routers?

-Sai.

Re: Load on routers after implementing IPSEC and EIGRP

Hi,

You can opt for AIM Card in your 3825 router, which will provide the ipsec encryption in hardware.

This will bring down the CPU Utilisation and you will get more benefits.

Have a look at the following URL for more information on this.
