hi guys,
I just want to ask if changing my loopback address has a great effect on my network, specificall on my bgp process. I have this lo with an ip address of my previous provider. Having a new provider now, i want to change this lo. can i put any ip address on this one ? or can i use my interface address for this one. i tried to check my bgp config and my router id shows that im using this lo.
tnx

Hi,
Changing the address on that loopback interface will not have any impact on the router ID currently in use for BGP and OSPF. The BGP/OSPF process only selects a router ID when it starts. Even if the address changes, the process continues to use the ID it started with.

Jeff,
The typically recommendation is to peer using loopback addresses for iBGP and interface addresses for eBGP.
