Re: loopback

Hi,

YOu can theoretically have up to 2147483648 loopback interfaces on a Cisco router. However, in practice, you are limited by the number of interface descriptor blocks supported by the particular platform in use.

There are many uses for a loopback interface:

- source of tunnels

- router IDs for routing protocols

etc...

The important thing about loopback interfaces is that they are software interfaces and as such, they never go down. Therefore, it makes sense to use such a stable interface for the above purposes...

Pls do remember to rate posts.
