I have a Cisco7606-S router with RSP720-3C-GE. We have getting the log message:

*Jan  1 01:08:56.203: %C7600_PLATFORM-3-LOW_BATT: Low Voltage detected for NVRAM Battery
*Jan  1 01:08:56.182: %C7600_PLATFORM-SP-3-LOW_BATT: Low Voltage detected for NVRAM Battery
*Jan  1 01:08:56.182: %DIAG-SP-3-MINOR: Module 6: Online Diagnostics detected a Minor Error. Please use 'show diagnostic result <target>' to see test results.
*Jan  1 01:08:56.182: %CONST_DIAG-SP-3-BOOTUP_TEST_FAIL: Module 6: TestNvramBatteryMonitor failed

The output "show diag result" is:

Solution: Get the Sup module RMA. Thats the only solution.

If in case you want to do Trobuleshooting and give it a try :

Try with physically re-seat the RP or Remove the RP, and press down on the battery to make sure it is seated firmly, then re-install the supervisor.

Hi Mohammed,

This post seems to have not gotten an answer. I thought I could share the solution as it could help someone else. Refer to http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/field-notices/641/fn64131.html

Low RP/SP battery can result in loss of configurations and initiate the router to rommon.

Solution is to replace the batteries: guidelines are given in the link shared.

Problem Description

Some coin cell batteries on the Route Switch Processor (RSP) 7600 fully discharge at an accelerated rate during an unpowered condition. When the full discharge occurs, it can lead to loss of configuration, clock time, and the cont-reg setting for auto-boot and common boot configuration.

Background

Technical support related to this issue has primarily been seen on the 7600 PF RSPs (RSP720-3C-GE, RSP720-3C-10GE, RSP720-3XCLGE, and RSP720-3CXL-10GE). The coin cell batteries discharge at an accelerated rate when the unit is not in a powered up state for a long time (approximately 15 months and over).

Problem Symptoms

If the battery becomes completely discharged, affected routers will lose configuration, clock-time, and the conf-reg setting for auto-boot and ROM Monitor Mode (ROMMON) variables during the next reboot. The battery should be replaced in this condition.

Other symptoms of low battery are:

  • LOW_BATT on the Switch Processor (SP) will lose the ROMMON variables.
  • LOW_BATT on the Route Processor (RP) will lose the ROMMON variables and configuration and on bootup you will get a dialog if you want to enter the initial configuration dialog.
  • Real Time Clock (RTC) is lost with RP low battery.
  • Error while the NVRAM configurations are read.

If these symptoms are seen without a LOW_BATT message, then the cause for these failures could be something else and you should contact the Technical Assistance Center (TAC).

Workaround/Solution

If the listed line cards show symptoms of low battery or battery exhausted, replacement of coin cell batteries is recommended.

regards,

Lorna
