Mail alert for hardware error/faulty in cisco Switches/Routers

I need your guide on creating mail alert or some other way of alert   for hardware (module, fan) faulty/minor errors, major errors  Guide me guys .

Is there any new way top get alerted ?

I have view on SNMP traps and syslog ..
