Manual and Auto DLCI

Hi All,

clarification needed on these examples, in relation to DLCIs. In the 1st example, full mesh, the author states that the DLCI is learned via LMI, but then, in the changes for the non-cisco device set up, he inputs the DLCI manually. My question, is, if they are learnt auto, via LMI, does this mean that the service provider sets an allocation via the switch at their end, and secondly, how is it learnt, for the manual setting by the engineer at the DTE end..? Little confused on this. Cheers.

Re: Manual and Auto DLCI

Hi,

Basically, when do you have a Cisco device in both sides, you can to use LMI auto configuration. It´s occurs because messages type exchanges across devices does have the same lmi type. When a device start a vc over frame-relay topology the first step is the exchange lmi messages.

Each manufacturer does have owner lmi type, if it´s different, vc is not standing up.
