Maximum icmp packet allowed between PE routers

MPLS PE and P routers are connected using POS link. MTU size of all the core routers are 4470. When I ping the loopback ip address from one router to other router, It allows only maximum 1546 bytes of icmp packets with fragmentation. Is there any maximum limit for icmp packet size on cisco routers?

Re: Maximum icmp packet allowed between PE routers

Hello Senthilkumar,

the link MTU is 4470 but you are pinging a loopback

what says

sh ip int loop M

sh mpls int loop M

That should explain what you see

Hope to help

Giuseppe
