Missing Ping responses when pinging HSRP address in PVLAN

Two routers are configured with HSRP and NAT. The HSRP interfaces are configured for NAT inside and link into different L2 switches into a private community vlan. The ports connecting the HSRP interfaces are community ports  and reside in the same community. When pinging the HSRP address from the switch connecting the active HSRP interface Ping responses are missing (Successrate <90). When executing the Ping the ping does not go through the NAT outside interface, which is OK. When traffic is routed through the router using the HSRP address as next hop ip address traffic is very slow or sometimes even stops. Currently, traffic is routed using the physical address of the active HSRP interface.

Does anyone has experience with HSRP in combination with PVLAN and know what could cause the slow performance?

Thanks.
