Is there a way to monitor the WAN link(leased line) , through software or through the routers. I want to see if i loose any packets and when does this happen. Also is there is a way to increase the size of ICMP packets send and receive, or try something else.

Thanks

You could try WAN link utilization , using

something like PRTG grapher. Runs on Windows.

http://www.paessler.com/download/prtg

Or MRGT Freeware

http://www.mrtg.com/

As for the errors you could look at interface itself..

show interface interface#

look for CRC errors, Input errors, runts etc.. these are indicators of physical connectivity problems..

to get a baseline on link interface you could always issue " clear counters " to zero out old errors information .. also the above grapher may give you error stats.

Hi, [Pls Rate if HELPS]

Yes, you need to use MRTG to monitor the WAN Links & Interfaces.

Also, you can use PRTG grapher. Whereas MRTG works on Windows, Linux & Solaris as Freeware.

MRTG:

PRTG:

INFO: You can also use Nessoft Multiping (PingPlotter)Tool for easy Monitoring.

Routers:

#show interface

Verify for CRC errors, Input Errors, overruns, etc.,

Inorder to investigate more on CRC error rate, issue "clear counters" to clear the CRC errors. Verify if CRC error increases again & again. If means report to the Carrier immediately

To see the memory failures, issue "show buffers" & "show buffers failures". If you see frequent failures in small, middle & big buffers means you need to fine tune the Buffers.

Also, collect all the Syslog of the Routers using "syslog Daemon software" - use Freeware Software in Windows "Kiwi Syslog Daemon" - http://www.kiwisyslog.com/

You can audit the Syslog atleast on Weekly basis. INFO: Enable SNMP Traps in Router & Collect the SNMP Traps for Validation / Verification / Investigation during the Incidents.

PLS RATE if HELPS
