mtu size

You have a MTU of 512 bytes on serial link. Packet comes with 1024 bytes. What is true?

Router discards packet

Router fragments, if DF bit is not set

Router fragments and Router on other end of the link will reassemble

Destination on other end will reassemble

Re: mtu size

Hi, by default router fragment but there is an special bit at the frame that if is set it (DF=1, don't fragment) then the router discards the frame.

Re: mtu size

I agree with ISABEL,

The router will fragment the packet and will discard only if the Dont Fragment is set

Re: mtu size

Hi,

What is the difference of MTU listed under

"sh int fa0/0" and "sh ip int fa0/0"

Re: mtu size

The "sh int fa 0/0" will show the interface information no matter it is configured w/ ip or not.

The "sh IP int fa 0/0" will only show the interface info. if it is configured with IP.

Hope this helps.
