Multicast over static routed network

I have a user department asking if they can buy a call center app that needs to multicast data to different sites. I have not implemented multicast routing before, and to complicate things, the entire network the mcast will traverse is statically routed. Does anyone know if the static routing will be an issue?

Hi,

static routing should not be an additional issue. Basically mcast needs unicast routing to determine "the best path to the server/sender". This is besides multicast routing the way a router figures out what the best distribution tree should look like. If you receive a stream from a sender on an interface and your unicast routing tells you, that this is not the best path to reach the senders address, you assume that data distribution is suboptimal and do not forward it.

Hope this helps
