N7K-C7010 NX-OS 5.2.1 with N7K-M108X2-12L Unable to Run Multicast Routing

Hi Guys,

Need your help on this.

I have an N7N-C7010 running NX-OS 5.2.1 with N7K-SUP1 and N7K-M108X2-12L.

I was unable to run Multicast Routing (Inter-VLAN Multicast)

Here are the configurations:

Not familiar with Nexus switches so these questions might not be applicable but  -

1) have you configured an RP ? If not you can either -

a) configure the Nexus to be an RP

or

b) configure "ip pim sparse-dense-mode" under the vlan interfaces (if supported)

2) have you checked that the TTL of the packets is greater than 1 (it needs to be to be routed across the vlan interfaces). The TTL settings would be on the actual source ie. usually set in the application itself.

For now its just inter-VLAN routing and I don't think we need RP right away.

There's no option if sparse-dense on Nexus.

Is it because it is all on one switch you say you do not need an RP ?

My understanding of PIM sparse mode was that an RP was required and not optional.

Could you try just configuring the Nexus as the RP and see what happens ?

Right now were doing the test on multicast address 239.0.1.2 between VLANs 131(server) and 14(listener).
