Does anybody know if  there are any documents  by Cisco Systems, containing recommendations for  the following values:

- maximum acceptable (threshold) level of  five minutes CPU Utilization, % ( routers, switches)

- maximum acceptable (threshold) level of free memory, memory used.

- maximum acceptable (threshold) level of proportion unicast/not unicast traffic

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I am not aware of any Cisco document advicing about the proper values. But they can be considered as follows:

- maximum acceptable (threshold) level of  five minutes CPU Utilization, % ( routers, switches):

The lower the better. Although each platform has a minimum CPU usage. i.e. 3550 switches tend to have a minimum of 35 - 40% of CPU usage dedicated to their internal management functions.

- maximum acceptable (threshold) level of free memory, memory used:

The higher the better. In addition having no memory fragmentation is very important too to be able to allocate every process needed.

- maximum acceptable (threshold) level of proportion unicast/not unicast traffic

The lower the proportion the better. Although the not unicast traffic levels will depend on the type of traffic traversing an interface, A percentage above the 85 - 90% may impact the link and switch/router performance.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot!
