Network/application performance

Below are my questions:

1. How to determine the acceptable latency, througput in accessing an application over a WAN infrastructure?

2.How to set threshold for a certain application traversing WAN that is accessed by multiple users?

3.In capacity planning, what is the best thing to consider to anticipate network degrade?

4. What are the causes of these delays data or voice?

Any reading materials, white papers, documents you can share, appreciate that.

If you know of application performance or network tools that is best used in the market today, kindly share it to me. thanks,

Re: Network/application performance

These are questions touching a broad range of topics.

One book I could recommend you in this subject is the following:

End-to-End QoS Network Design....

Re: Network/application performance

1. Almost impossible. You can compute a rough measure of latency based on distance

all apps and endstations behave differently.

2. work that out with the users

3. link util, drops.

4. propagation delay queueing, distance, mis configuration.

A good implementation of netflow can go a long way to helping understand all this stuff.
