Do you guys think that a Open BSD BGP Server Router, Quad Core Zeon Processor with Broadcom Netextreme TCP offload NIC and 4GB of ram can compete with a Cat 6506 as an edge router doing BGP for full routing Tables?

Hi,

PC is a lousy router, though its cool to run OpenBSD BGP in a PC, maybe in a LAB or small DC/ISP.

You need a hardware where its peripherals (CPU, RAM, Disk, Bus) are built specifically for some purpose > ROUTING/SWITCHING < for robust and optimum performance. In contrast PC peripherals are generic, its built to run everything.

Dandy
